Acceptable Use Policy
Version: 1.0
Last updated: April 2026
Governing document: Gatewaychecker Terms of Service
1. Purpose
This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") defines the permitted and prohibited uses of the Gatewaychecker platform. It supplements the Terms of Service and forms part of the agreement between Gatewaychecker Ltd and all customers.
The Gatewaychecker platform is designed to assist qualified professionals in reviewing BSA Gateway 2 submission documents prior to submission to the Building Safety Regulator. It is a decision-support tool — not a decision-making tool.
2. Permitted Uses
You may use Gatewaychecker to:
- Upload and analyse Gateway 2 submission documents (fire strategies, structural strategies, competence declarations, change control logs, and related documents) against BSA Gateway 2 rejection criteria.
- Review AI-generated findings and risk scores as one input into a broader professional review process.
- Use the risk report as a structured checklist to identify potential gaps before formal submission.
- Share read-only reports with project team members, advisors, and professional consultants for their review and input.
- Use the platform's API (on Professional and Enterprise plans) to integrate Gatewaychecker with project management, document management, or construction management software, within the scope of your plan.
- Test the platform with sample or anonymised documents.
3. Prohibited Uses
You must not use Gatewaychecker:
3.1 Without independent professional review
You must not submit a Gateway 2 application to the Building Safety Regulator based solely or primarily on Gatewaychecker's AI-generated outputs without independent review by a suitably qualified professional — including, as applicable, a fire engineer, structural engineer, principal designer, or building safety manager. Gatewaychecker outputs are advisory only and do not substitute for professional judgement.
3.2 As an autonomous decision-making tool
You must not use Gatewaychecker's outputs to make automated or unreviewed decisions about whether to submit, amend, or withdraw a Gateway 2 application. Every AI finding must be reviewed by a competent human professional before any submission decision is made.
3.3 As the sole basis for fire or structural safety decisions
You must not rely on Gatewaychecker's outputs as the sole or primary basis for any decision about fire safety, structural safety, or compliance with building regulations. Gatewaychecker is not a substitute for the independent engineering judgement of a suitably qualified professional.
3.4 For fraudulent or misleading purposes
You must not use Gatewaychecker to generate materials intended to mislead the Building Safety Regulator, building control bodies, or any other authority about the compliance status of a building or its Gateway 2 submission.
3.5 In violation of applicable law
You must not use Gatewaychecker in any way that violates applicable law, including the Building Safety Act 2022, the Higher-Risk Buildings Regulations 2023, the UK GDPR, or any other applicable regulation.
3.6 To circumvent security or access controls
You must not attempt to: circumvent or bypass Gatewaychecker's authentication or access controls; access another organisation's data; test, probe, or scan the platform's infrastructure for vulnerabilities without written permission; or introduce malicious code or malware.
3.7 To reverse-engineer the platform
You must not attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or derive the criteria ontology, AI prompts, scoring logic, or any other proprietary element of the Gatewaychecker platform from its outputs.
3.8 For high-volume automated scraping or abuse
You must not use automated scripts to scrape outputs, exceed API rate limits, or submit documents in a manner designed to circumvent usage limits or billing constraints.
3.9 For purposes unrelated to building safety review
You must not use Gatewaychecker for purposes that are wholly unrelated to its intended function as a building safety document review tool.
4. AI Advisory Disclaimer
Gatewaychecker uses artificial intelligence to analyse documents. AI systems can make errors. Specifically:
- AI findings may be incorrect, incomplete, or based on misinterpretation of document text.
- AI confidence scores are estimates, not guarantees of accuracy.
- The criteria ontology reflects Gatewaychecker's interpretation of BSR guidance and is not an official BSR product.
- AI outputs may not account for project-specific circumstances, site conditions, or regulatory updates that post-date the criteria ontology.
The appropriate use of Gatewaychecker is as a structured first-pass review tool that helps suitably qualified professionals identify areas requiring attention — not as a final compliance check, and not as a substitute for professional competence.
This disclaimer restates and reinforces the advisory disclaimer in clause 5 of the Terms of Service, which governs Gatewaychecker's liability limitations.
5. Enforcement
5.1 Gatewaychecker reserves the right to investigate suspected violations of this AUP.
5.2 Where a violation is confirmed or reasonably suspected, Gatewaychecker may:
- Issue a warning;
- Temporarily suspend access to the platform;
- Permanently terminate the account;
- Take legal action where the violation causes or risks harm.
5.3 Gatewaychecker will not terminate accounts or restrict access without reasonable cause and (except in cases of serious or urgent violations) prior notice.
5.4 If you believe your account has been suspended in error, contact legal@gatewaychecker.co.uk.
6. Reporting Misuse
If you become aware of any use of the Gatewaychecker platform that violates this AUP, please report it to:
Reports of misuse are treated as confidential and investigated promptly.
